Looks Like We Made It!

Well, graduation has come and gone... and I didn't fall apart like I thought I would. Oh, don't get me wrong, I shed some tears. Like Friday night when I arrived at the Baccalaureate Mass. The kids and the priests had already entered just before I arrived, and just seeing the back of my son's head, in his graduation cap for the first time, I misted up. The thing that got me at the actual graduation ceremony was the playing of the traditional "Pomp and Circumstance" or whatever they call that song where everyone marches in. I felt myself start to go, but I held on. Then my husband standing to my left, pointed out that my sister, standing to my right, was crying. Looking at her was all it took. The tears started to flow a little faster. Anyway, hubby very gallantly offered his clean white hanky for my use, and I made it through.

We had the usual speeches; we had TWO salutatorians and two valedictorians at our school due to having the IB program. There was the keynote speaker, an alumni who is a priest was pretty good and there was some other lady, but the whole graduation wrapped up in about 90 minutes. Remarkable, but is only a class of 160. After the grads marched out, we followed them to the front lawn of the church and watched them all toss their caps. That's when it finally hit hubby and HE started to mist up.

Anyway, we stood around chatting for a while, but it was a sunny Florida afternoon and probably in the upper 80's, so for all our sakes, the adults decided to depart. No. 1 son said he wanted to stay and would be along later. Obviously, we understood. We left and I couldn't help wondering what things were going to be like now that he had passed that great "mile marker".

He came home not to terribly long after we did. I guess he just needed to say a few goodbyes. I don't really know what I was expecting. He's the same kid he always has been; I had to remind him to take out the trash, he isn't "rebelling" or asserting his independence in some great way. I know it all sounds so crazy, the way I had built this up. There has been one suspicious incident though. This morning, the baby dumped out a bag of cereal on the floor, and # 1 son swept it up WITHOUT BEING ASKED! Should I be worried?....
