Today is not that different than many others; I am all over the map and feel like I am going nowhere.
We are leaving on Sunday to sign #1 son up for college courses and returning on Tuesday. Then we leave on Friday for our trip to Asia. I am trying to untangle the house at least a little for my mom-in-law, so she won't pull out her hair (for a day or two anyway.)
I am also trying to figure out my wardrobe for this trip. Seems that in Japan, women generally dress like, well, ladies, and don't go trotting around in shorts (unless they are long and tailored) at least in the non-resort areas. China seems to be more relaxed. Anyway, I want to be appropriate. It isn't that "ugly American" thing I am worried about, so much is I HATE sticking out any more than I have to. I am also trying to anticipate anything and everything the troops I am leaving at home may need, as well as everything that I may possibly need to take, yet fit into a small carry-on bag. (Road warrior hubby doesn't know the meaning of "checked bags".) Actually, we marvel at the folks that seem to have a bag for everything they own and could ever want to bring, from golf clubs and surf boards to a rolling bag that must contain the mother-in-law, judging by it's size.
So, what to take? How many outfits? Do I trust that I can find cold medicine in Tokyo that I can read the label if I need it? Can I get by with one pair of dressy shoes? Do I have enough first aid stuff for the kids? Not that we are particularly injury prone, but we DO go through the band aids for even minor boo-boos.
Tomorrow is another day to worry and grind my wheels, so for now, off for a few hours of rest.
