I am officially sick of this election. Though I do prefer one candidate over the other, I am disappointed with both. They spend all their money and effort mud slinging and not offering any concrete ideas on what they plan to do if elected. It is all so sad. We need real leadership and frankly, I don't hold any real hope that either can affect real change. After all, they don't lead single-handed. They have to go through Congress to get anything done and we all know how effective THEY are. My only concern is that they do as little harm as possible. I worry about losing good health care and paying more taxes.
The thing that saddens me the most about all of this is how divisive the whole thing has become. The press has been so one-sided, and the comments from the entertainment world drive me crazy. When did being an actor/actress , talk show host, or director make someone a political expert? I find there are some people I used to enjoy watching on sitcoms or in movies that I just can't stomach any more.
Then there is the whole sign thing where people are stealing and or vandalizing candidates' signs, stickers and so forth. I never have completely understood the point, at least with national elections of having the signs. I will not be influenced to vote for someone on the basis of seeing a sticker on a neighbor's car or a sign in their yard. I do however, sometimes feel a sense of disappointment when I see someone I know or care about with a sticker or sign for candidate "A" when I like candidate "B". I can't help it. As far as local elections, go right ahead and put signs up. I don't know the names, so it couldn't hurt for me to see them 40 or 50 times a day while I drive my kids to school.
Regardless of the outcome (if we actually have one) of November 4, I will wake up in a better place on the 5th, simply because the election will be over (or at least the campaigning part.)
