SAT's, ABC's and Birds and Bees

My life these days is running the gambit between diaper duty, preschool, the trials and tribulations of elementary school, the first flirtation of middle school and the thrill of Homecoming Week in high school. One thing for sure, it is never dull.

The baby has grasped the concept of eating solids, though actually swallowing them without pushing them out with the tongue first is still a work in progress. Or maybe they just taste better mixed with drool. We may never know. He is also able to sit up by himself which has opened up a whole new level of activity. There is so much more you can do when not confined to back or belly. Unfortunately, this development has rendered one of my favorite tools of the trade, my baby carrier, useless. On the bright side, he has graduated to the high chair and enjoys sitting up in the grocery buggy. He is obviously scoping out what to knock off the shelves when he can reach: - )

My three year old volleys between loving going to school and clinging to me for dear life. He has learned to recognize his "number" (meaning the first letter of his first name) and points out every one he sees in a day's time.

The six and eight year-olds are sick with sore throats and fever this week. Part of me enjoys pampering them when they are sick, but I am ready for them to be well again for their sake as well as mine.

My sixth grade daughter has picked up a not-so-secret admirer. He is paying her a lot of attention and is quite open about the fact that he really likes her. She doesn't know just how to take all of this. On the one hand, she is flattered, but on the other, I think she is a little embarrassed. She had never really considered this boy in a romantic sense (he isn't the one from the dance), but now that she knows how he feels, she is beginning to think about him a little differently.

My oldest son went to his first football game, Friday night (our team won!) and the Homecoming Dance on Saturday. Boy, have things changed since I was in school! The girls were dressed in short little dresses and stilettos and there was a fleet of limousines in the parking lot. Amazing!

I am in a really special place right now as I watch the stages of my kids' life unfold in front of me. Bed. All of this running around has me worn out!
