I find it hard to believe that the kids have already been back at school for nearly four weeks, five if you include high school. In a weird way, it almost feels like summer never happened. We are completely back in the routine.
Oddly enough, or maybe not, I don't miss #1 son every minute of the day like I expected to. He was always buried in his room under a mound of books when he was home, and once he started driving, I saw even less of him, so in a way, nothing has really changed except I am no longer doing his laundry, buying his favorites at the grocery store or having him show up randomly in the kitchen to graze.
It was nice having him home ever so briefly last weekend. He was happy to see his kid brothers and the kids were all excited to see him, but he was also happy to leave. Surprisingly, I wasn't sad to see him go. Mainly, I was glad that he is happy and WANTED to be at school. I think he is really enjoying being on his own.
This week has zipped by. I have managed to find a million odds and ends to keep me from accomplishing anything of note, but I guess I have gotten a few things crossed off the proverbial to-do list. I have had an ongoing issue with one of our cars. The alarm goes off randomly for no reason, so I planned to take it in to be fixed. Before I could do that, the check engine light came on in the SUV, so I had to spend a morning at the dealer waiting on it. $200 and a new solenoid (?) switch later, it's good as new, except now I have noticed that one of my daytime running lights is dead. That will have to wait until next oil change probably. The headlights are fine.
We have a birthday party tonight, otherwise I would be in veg-mode by 7. Actually, I am feeling rather energetic considering it's the end of the week. I have set actual goals for myself this weekend (Ha.) We'll see how that turns out. I am husband free for another 2.5 weeks, so I would like to have the house (and perhaps me) looking noticeably improved by the time he returns. Hey, I can dream can't I?
