Now, I AM One of THOSE People

Actually, WE are now those people. The ones who have a "vacation home" or "second home", a place at the beach. We decided to take advantage of the ridiculously under priced real estate market and get a little place to get away. We figured that with what we can rack up in room and food expenses for our little army for a week, we could justify it and who knows, either retire there or make a tidy little profit when we sell some day. Anyway, after much research and touring many properties, our little place turned into a bigger place, albeit a better one by far, with a pedigree and price to match.
So now, we have this "home away from home" and it is almost like having another baby. The place is gorgeous and ready to occupy, but we are starting from scratch again. Everything in our "everyday" home is pretty new and we don't have any discards to take with us to the new place. We got rid of our previous decor, "early trailer park chic" when we moved here 5 years ago. Honestly, it was about time. Much of our furniture dated back to our college days and first apartments when we were single and thought that boards and cinder blocks made a dandy bookshelf.
Then there is the whole housewares thing. I have some things ready to go, for example I can spare a few towels from around here and I think I have a spare set of silverware. But when I think of all the things that I have accumulated around here that just make life a little easier and trying to duplicate it to some extent, the process seems a bit daunting.
Rome was not built in a day, and I decided early on that since we will have this place basically, from now until nursing home, I would take things slowly. I don't have to have everything right now. My hubby on the other hand... he went to Circuit City and bought bigger, badder, bolder TVs and all the trimmings. Of course, this is the same man who found a KILLER sale on bedding and bought the beds well before we actually owned anything roomier than our current garage to store them in.
We are going to be spending the week of Thanksgiving at our new "beach house" and when we get down to the tactical effort of breakfast lunch and dinners (including some facsimile of Thanksgiving Dinner) for 8 or 9 people, for 7 days, I may have to make several forays to the Super Bed, Bath, Linens Mart for reinforcement. I am, after all, one of those people...
